spring clean appliances

With spring well on its way, the new season is a great chance to energise your home before summer takes over.

Yet, spring cleaning isn’t just about wiping down your windows and ensuring that your floors sparkle. Cleaning your appliances and ensuring that they are working efficiently can make a huge difference.

That is why we have put together our comprehensive guide to cleaning your home appliances this Spring, below, that you can consider your unofficial appliance spring clean checklist!

Disinfect Your Dishwasher

Your dishwasher’s main job is to make sure that all of your dishes and cutlery are clean and sparkling. So with that huge workload, sometimes your dishwasher itself will need some cleaning too!

To ensure that your dishwasher is clean, fill up a dishwasher-safe cup with white vinegar and place it in the top rack. Then set your dishwasher to run the hottest and longest cleaning cycle and let the vinegar get to work loosening any food particles, whilst also sanitising the appliance as a whole.

Cleaning Your Oven, Minus the Chemicals

There’s nothing better than a sparkling, new-looking oven yet, sometimes the number of chemicals that can be required to achieve this can be scary especially when you cook your family’s dinner in there!

To get your oven spotless without the chemicals, simply remove any burnt-on food with a scrub brush and then make a paste with baking soda, water and a little squirt of dish soap.

Then, apply the paste with a sponge, covering the whole of your oven except the vents. Let this sit overnight and then spray it with equal parts of vinegar and water. Give this solution 15 minutes to sit and wipe it clean.

Lemons in the Microwave?

Even if your microwave looks clean, sometimes this can be deceiving!

Simply squeeze some lemon juice into a bowl of warm water and add the lemon rinds to the liquid; then microwave this solution for 5 minutes.

The solution will boil and then the steam will loosen any dry food off the interior surface of the microwave.

Once the timer is finished, carefully remove the hot bowel and use a clean towel to wipe down the inside of the microwave.

Clean Your Refrigerator Coils

Cleaning your refrigerator coils is a great way to keep the appliance running as it should.

This can be done using a special coil cleaning brush, which will loosen any dirt and dust and then this can be vacuumed up.

Clean the Glass Oven Door

Dirt can easily build up between the outer and inner glass panels of your oven’s door.

To clean this, simply remove the screws that secure the front panel to the oven door frame; then clean the glass with a scrub pad, some degreaser and hot water. It’s as simple as that!

Clean Your Refrigerator Seals

It may not be easily visible, however in and around your refrigerator seal can easily become full of grime. Simply grab a toothbrush to brush away any food particles and then, if the seal feels dry, rub a little petroleum jelly on it.
