Hobs
Discover a wide range of kitchen hobs at Appliance World Online, including induction, ceramic and gas hob options.
If you have an in-built oven, then having a hob is essential for worktop cooking. Whether it's boiling, frying or searing, there are plenty of reasons why a quality hob is important whatever you're cooking.
Choose The Hob That's Right For You
There is a range of different hob types available to suit your requirements, whether it be your own personal cooking preference or working within your current kitchen setup. For a modern electric kitchen, the induction hob is the most popular choice, featuring touch controls and heat indicators for an easy cooking experience.
Coming in as a slightly cheaper option is the ceramic hobs, which look almost identical to the shiny black gloss look of the induction hobs but operate slightly differently. A ceramic hob will heat the ring itself, whilst the induction heats the pan through magnetism.
Gas hobs offer a great cooking experience, allowing ultimate heat control when cooking. They even feature cast iron pan supports that can easily be removed and cleaned. So no matter whether you choose a white enamel hob or stainless steel hob, you can keep things classic in your kitchen.
There is also a selection of other hob types available, including solid plate hobs, mixed fuel hobs, and even compact domino hobs. You can also combine a hob with an extractor with a venting hob.

Common Hob FAQs
Do Induction Hobs Need Special Pans?
When cooking with induction hobs, only specific pans will work on the hob. The cooking process on induction hobs requires magnetisation, so you'll require pans made with ferrous metals, such as cast iron or 18/10 stainless steel. The best way you can check if your pan will work is by seeing if the bottom of your pan attaches to a magnet. If it does, it will work.
Can You Use All Four Rings On An Induction Hob?
Whilst any hob is able to use all four rings at once, for some of the lower-wattage models, using all four hobs on full heat simultaneously might be a challenge. However, for higher-wattage induction hobs, this is much easier.
What Does An Induction Hob Look Like?
Typically, an induction hob will look like one single plate of black glass, with the hobs outlined in white. It'll also have touch control to turn the hob on/off, or it'll feature heat control knobs. Induction hobs look similar to ceramic hobs but they work differently.
Do Induction Hobs Save Money?
Induction hobs might be the most expensive electric hob type, but they're also the most energy-efficient. So whilst you might spend more initially on an induction hob, the electricity usage will see you save money on each mealtime compared to a ceramic or solid plate hob.
